Toward the tenth year of a stable career in academia, specializing in decision support technologies, William Hodges accepted an invitation to step into the trenches to participate directly in the implementation of the type of management-support applications he could only talk about in an academic environment. He has spent the last fifteen years pursuing this line of work in various capacities, including as a certified Essbase boot camp instructor, an independent consultant, a co-proprietor of a successful mid-size consulting firm, and more recently on the consulting staff of one of today's largest international Oracle EPM implementers.
This career evolution gives him a unique alternate perspective on the challenges and opportunities EPM technologies offer to designers, implementers, and consumers of management and decision support. He enjoys sharing his perspective on both nuts-and-bolts matters and theoretical guiding principles, the combination of which has served him well in his own effort to deliver value to his clients and employers. Earlier presentations include an invitation to data analysts to explore the power of MDX (see A Path to MDX Mastery, Kscope13, New Orleans, Louisiana, 2013).
